Algarve Climate & Temperature Information
The Algarve temperature is generally quite warm throughout the year and the Algarve enjoys lots of sunshine. The Algarve is a fairly dry place with virtually no rain in the summer months and about a week of rainy days during the winter months. Tourism and related activities are extensive and make up the bulk of the Algarve’s summer economy. Fish, seafood and fruit production, which includes oranges, carob beans, figs and almonds, are other important activities in the region.
In March and April the mean Albufeira temperature ranges between 11 and 20 degrees celcius and in August and September temperatures are between 20 and 28 degrees celcius. There are an average of 7, 6, 8 and 5 wet days per month in January thru to April with no wet days in July or August.
In the western Algarve temperatures are generally cooler in the day in summer and warmer in winter than in the eastern Algarve. At night the west is warmer in the winter than the eastern Algarve and in the summer cooler. This is caused by the moderating effect of the Atlantic ocean.
The Praia da Luz temperature in November and December is between 8 and 19 degrees celcius wheras in July and August average temperatures increse to between 17 and 29 degrees. Lagos’ economy, like many coastal towns in Portugal, has always been closely linked to the sea, and fishing has been an important activity since very ancient times.
