I’ve been to Oahu. It’s nice, a place where tourists go. The best can be crowed. Depends how much money you have. You can also go island hopping for not too much while you’re there, so you can see more than just one island.
I’m not sure about the water parks, but I just love the beach, and all the beaches are gorgeous.
There is is the Princess Waikiki (I think that’s what it’s called) but man, on Waikiki there are all sorts of wonderful hotels. And back a few streets, there are… not as nice, but more affordable hotels.
Stay away from scantily clad women in see through high heels.

1) Oahu is more populated. It has more things to do, but Maui will probably be more of the tropical paradise atmosphere that many folks are looking for. Both islands have plenty of things to do with kids, but probably Oahu more so, with a zoo, a children’s museum, the water park.
2) Honolulu International Airport is on the south side of the island, about 10 miles west of Waikiki. Maui’s Airport is in Kahului, at the north side of the isthmus in the middle of the island.
3) There are many good hotels that fit your requirements. A lot depends on your price range & whether or not you want to hang at the hotel vs explore the island. If you are going to be off exploring, it may not make sense to pay top dollar for a room that you are just using to sleep in. You might consider Hilton Hawaiian Village on Oahu or the Grand Wailea on Maui.
4) I like the Hawaiian Adventure Water Park, but I have never been to any others. I get the impression that ours is a little smaller than some on the mainland. But I have always had a good time there. The only other thing that is close to being a theme park is the Polynesian Cultural Center on the windward side of Oahu. They have “villages” representing the major Polynesian cultures like Samoa & Tonga st along a waterway , and a great show in the evening.
Hope you have a great visit.

Hi, how are you?
Well, I have been to Kihei, Hawaii on the island of Maui. It was absolutely beautiful! It’s not so much the tourist destination that Honolulu is, but it’s really great. You are able to get more in contact with the locals and the way that they actually live. If you are looking for tons of people, crowded beaches, and big lights, go to the city of Honolulu on Hawai’i. However, if you want to visit beautiful beaches with few people and really RELAX, then definitely go to Maui. Some beaches to check out are Kamaole Beach I, Kamaole Beach II

This place on Kauai is perfect for families. It has a fantatic pool with a lazy river, it’s close to the airport, it’s in a great spot for exploring the rest of the island, it’s near a shopping center and theaters and it’s on a beautiful beach.

i think oahu would be your best bet. there’s lots of shopping spots and you can go to sea life park, honolulu zoo, honolulu aquarium, and polynesian cultural center.
also, during the summer we have the 50th state fair at the stadium [very family friendly] and bayfest. for bayfest you need to buy tickets through ticketmaster
there’s only one airport in honolulu, oahu
nearly all hotels are on/within walking distance of waikiki beach.
i’ve been to the water park a few times. its not bad. there’s kid friendly sections of the park also.

All Hawaiian Island are great. Oahu is where about 90% of all Hawaii visitors go to because in Waikiki and Honolulu, the majority of the hotels are located. Also, there is more to do here when it comes to nightly entertainment. However, it is also the most crowded island. For a reason Oahu’s nickname is “the gathering place.”
Oahu’s airport is the Honolulu International Airport and it’s about 40 minutes from Waikiki (30 minutes from downtown Honolulu). Maui’s airport is in Kahului.
As for hotels on Oahu, your hotel choice depends on how much money you would like to spend. A good family hotel is the Hilton Hawaiian Village. It’s right on the beach, has a nice pool area for kids and nightly entertainment and shops right there. It also has nice surroundings, with small lagoons and large colorful fish swim in them. Also, the kids can watch their penguins (they also live on the hotel grounds) and small sea turtles. I would recommend this hotel because of these kid-friendly facts.
The Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park is a great place for children too. Many fun waterslides, hot tubs and wave pools. Another good place to take your kids is Sea Life Park, also on the island of Oahu. If you plan to rent a car, it’s about a half hour drive east from Waikiki. It’s a nice scenic drive. You can also take the bus from Waikiki there. Just hop on bus route 22 or 23 and it will take you right there. It costs $2 per adult and $1 for a child. Ask for a transfer ticket, which lets you use the ticket again until the expiration time (shown on top of the ticket). You can visit Sea Life Park during the day and also take part in activities there, such as dolphin swims (that is if you want to get wet). Or just look at the animals if you don’t want to get wet. Also, they offer a traditional Hawaiian luau in the evenings (check to see on which evenings during the week they offer it if you’d like to participate in a luau). What’s unique about this luau is that they have a great penguin and monk seal greeting and following dolphin show before the luau feast. I would also say that it’s the best luau for kids on Oahu. (A luau is a traditional Hawaiian feast where you can try traditional Hawaiian foods such as taro rolls, poi, lomi lomi salmon, kalua roast pig, island fruits and veggies, haupia – a coconut pudding and other foods as well, including standard American foods).
The Waikiki Aquarium is also a fun place for the entire family. It’s across from the Honolulu Zoo and here you can see many marine animals, such as sharks, tropical fish and turtles. They have an inside area and outside too. Your kids would love it.
Maui also has many nice things to do (there is the Maui Ocean Center for example and nice beaches), but Oahu has more. It is more crowded, that is true, but if you drive outside of Waikiki, you will find peaceful beaches too. One great beach for children is Kailua Beach, Waimanalo Beach and Lanikai Beach, all on the island’s east coast (in the towns Kailua, Lanikai and Waimanalo). They are sandy and have soft powdery sand. In fact, Lanikai Beach and Kailua Beach have been ranked as one of the top beaches in America. Waikiki Beach, where most of the hotels are, is also nice, but it has some rocks and reefy aread in some areas. So definitely also go to some other beaches, don’t only stay in Waikiki if you choose Oahu as the place to go.
Another great Honolulu city beach that’s near Waikiki is Ala Moana Beach Park. It’s easily reachable by City Bus from Waikiki (with routes 8,19,20,42,23) and right across from Ala Moana Shopping Center. It has a nice wide sandy beach, no reef and no waves. There’s an outer reef that protects the beach from waves and currents. The beach park also has plenty of shady areas and is great for picnics. There are also tennis fields and large grassy areas where you can play ball games.

Many people also like to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center. It’s Oahu’s number one paid visitor attraction. Here you can learn about the cultures and lifestyles of 7 Polynesian island nations, including Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, the Marquesas Islands, Fiji and New Zealand (Aotearoa). It’s a large open-air park and museum with many hands-on arts and crafts demonstrations for children and adults as well. They also offer a luau by the way.

It’s funny because I actually work at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park as a lifeguard. Oahu is probably the best for families.. There’s a lot more to do and oahu is the only island with a mass transit system. (TheBus)
Hawaiian Waters has a new ride comin out called, “The Tornado.” It’s going to have it’s blessing ceremony on june 27th and it officially opens on the 28th of june.
Oahu has many historical sites including Iolani Palace, Washington place, and the Bishop Museum.
It’s also home to the some of the nicest beachs in all of hawaii…Waimea Bay, Makaha Beach, Makua Beach, Yokohama, Sandy’s beach, and Banzai pipeline…. ummmm only in the winter….its known as Ehukai in the summer.
Also, if you like hiking, oahu has Maunawili falls on the windward side…(kaneohe)…
As a native born son of oahu and part hawaiian… oahus the best….hahah…we also have a lower crime and drug activity rate. =)
