What are some fun activities for children?

▪Kate▪ asked:

…All under the age of nine? I have six children, and I am taking my sister’s kids for five days while her and her hubby go to Hawaii for a vacation. Anyway, she has four children, 9, 7, 4, and 9 months, they will be here around 6:00 (it is 12:45 where I live.) I will have 10 chlidren in the house, 3 of which are under a year. What are some fun activities that most of the kids can participate in? My kids’ ages are 4 mo (twins), 3, 4, 6, and 8. I am willing to spend some money, but not too much. Any ideas? I need help! Thanks!

Hey, I just thought of something, maybe I could take them to dunner at McDonald’s and then let them play in the gym…hmmm…not a bad idea…
whoops! I meant to say dinner, not dunner.

Your a busy gal! Gonna need lots to do w/ 10 kids (and more helping hands too). I take care of a 20 month old and I have a 12 month old and try to do something fun w/ them everyday. A very messy but fun activity is mixing cornstarch and water together until it makes a watery goo, it is the coolest feeling, even I like playing with it. Something else that is always fun is having the kids make their own books, pick out pictures in magazines and seal them up in zip-lock bags. Staple the bags together so seam in inward and tape over seam and staples. Have fun!

    Activities for the Big Ones-
-Salt Dough– Let them make it (non toxic incase they eat it!) and the microwave it. And then microwave it 30 seconds, let it cool and repeat until it hardens. Then let them paint it.
-Egg Babies– Cook Eggs (Boiled.) then put faces on them and tell them to be mommies and daddies. They make it houses they can make it clothes.
-Egg Hunts– Easter eggs on sale. It will help their reading, put notes in them, it also builds team work.
-Balloon Pop- Blow up balloons and put notes in them for sharades. Then let them act it out.
-Paper Mashae–Mix Glue, Flour and Water. Then let them put it around a pop bottle hot-glued to a peice of cardboard.

    For the little ones-
-You MUST have toys for them
    -Barney Tapes
-Salt Dough (they might not like the taste if they eat it but it ain’t poison!)
    -Music
    -Walkers
-Swing sets=Those swingy things you hook to the doorway.
-Dollies– When the big kids do egg babies the little kids can play dollies.
    -House- Build a fort.

Kudos to you!!! I hope you have a second pair of eyes and hands coming to help you. I know that kids love to play sidewalk chalk outside. Also, a trip to the park or the library are free and can provide a few hours of entertainment. Good luck!

Coloring is always fun for a while. You can get some pretty good coloring books at the dollar store. You could also get some construction paper and stickers and stuff like that and put like a plastic mat or newspaper down on the table or kitchen floor and do some craft stuff with them, if you’re willing for things to get a little messy. You could go buy a package of those big blocks that are kind of like legos, but bigger. They don’t cost a whole lot. As for the smaller kids, like the babies, that’s a little tougher. Maybe you could put in some kind of cute movie for them or just let them crawl around in the living room and play. Good luck!
